Shane Lawal retires at 32

Former EuroLeague and EuroCup center Shane Lawal announced that he’s retiring from professional basketball at 32 years of age, via a post on his Instagram profile.

Lawal also wrote that he’s taking over as head coach for in a high school team in Detroit.

“I am announcing my retirement. These past ten years have had ups and downs. From titles to surgeries. Much love to all my teammates, staff, and fans.
2. I am happy to announce that I am the new head coach for the Girls Varsity Basketball Team at Detroit Renaissance High School. Ready to embark on this next journey!!, Lawal wrote.

Lawal played in EuroLeague and EuroCup with Dinamo Sassari in 2014-2015 and in 2015-2016 with Barcelona. The Nigerian center was forced to sit out most of 2016-2017 due to left tendon rupture he sustained in the 2016 Olympic games. He parted ways with Barcelona in May 2017.

Lawal was a key player of the Sassari team that won the Italian Supercup, Cupand League titles of 2014-2015. He also won the gold medal in the 2015 FIBA Africas with Nigeria.
