While names like Andrea Trinchieri, Svetislav Pesic, Giorgos Bartzokas and Fotis Katsikaris are in Barcelona’s list of candidates for the position of the team’s head coach, it seems that the Catalans will take a change a direction, albeit on a path that was already in the minds of the club’s management.

According to Mundo Deportivo, in the plan which Barcelona now favors, Sito Alonso will be the team’s new head coach and Aito Reneses will rejoin the team he coached from 1985 to 2001, as the club’s new technical director. They have previously worked together in Badalona with veteran Aito acting as a mentor to much younger Alonso.

Barcelona initially considered the possibility of combining Reneses with Sarunas Jasikevicius, but Aito preferred Alonso as the team’s head coach and not Saras who has a deal with Barcelona. As it turned out Saras couldn’t be a head coach in Liga Endesa, because he has not two years of experience as a head coach, one of the regulations by the Spanish association of coaches in order to get the proper license. Those rules further complicated the arrival of Saras to the Blaugrana while completely opening the door for Alonso’s possible arrival.
