Anadolu Efes survives double overtime against Panathinaikos

Anadolu Efes grabbed its second win of the season over Panathinaikos with 91-83 in double overtime!

After a prank bomb threat call in the Abdi Ipekci Arena, the game between Anadolu Efes and Panathinaikos began normally.

In the first quarter, Nick Calathes led the visitors both in scoring and creating, with the Greens being up 16 – 20 after the first 10 minutes.

Efes monitored closely, yet Panathinaikos was able to expand the lead to 10 points halfway through the second period with Fotsis, 22 – 32. The hosts ran a 8 – 0 in their favour with 3 minutes left until halftime, yet Panathinaikos was still up 35 – 42 after 20 minutes.

After the break, both teams fought for the upper hand of the game, with none actually being able to impose its rhythem over the other. After multiple changes in the lead, the score was tired at 53 – 53 after the third quarter.

Panathinaikos expanded the deficit to 4 points at 35′ soon evened at 65 points as the hosts had no fouls after 7 minutes in the period. Cotton evened the score (70 – 70) with 18 seconds left and the game went to overtime!

In the five extra minutes, Rivers kept the Greens alive, but Dunston was the heart and soul of Efes, with the spectacular game going into a second overtime at 77 – 77!

Efes had a clear vantage point, scoring 7 unanswered points in the final part of the game. Even though the visitors were close in the score, a three pointer by Heurtel at the end of the game gave his team an 8 point win.
