Legendary Brazilian mega-scorer Oscar Schmidt was inducted in the Italian Baskeball Hall of Fame today before the league game between Reggia Caserta and Consultinvest Pesaro.

Schmidt, one of the greatest scorers in basketball history with a career total of 49,737 points, received the honor by Gaetano Laguardia, vice president of the Italian Basketball Federation.  The Brazilian icon spent eleven years of his long and prolific career in Italy, playing in Caserta from 1982 to 1990 and then joining Pavia from 1990 to 1993.

During his days in Italy he was earned top league scorer status no less than seven times, in 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1992. He also won the Italian Cup with Caserta in 1988.

Schmidt also received honorary citizenship status in the city of Caserta, a place where he’s… worshipped, by mayor Carlo Marino.
