Txus Vidorreta: I applaud the decision of BCL not to cancel the competition

Iberostar Tenerife coach Txus Vidorreta supports the decision of Basketball Champions League to organize a Final Eight for which his team will have to qualify in the best-of-three series against Filou Oostende (tied at 1-1).

“I applaud the decision of the Basketball Champions League not to cancel the competition. It is evident that all the teams will have a different situation in September, new players, in many cases even new coaches, but the other alternative was to cancel it permanently,” the coach told Marca.

He also noted that moving the start all the way to late September was a good call as well: “The fact that this option of playing a Final Eight has been found and the four teams that have a previous tie will also play it in September, it seems to be a good option for this league to have a champion in 2020, which I believe is a very positive thing for competition.”

It may take some time but sports will play an important role when it comes to the perception of the world going back to ‘normality’: “Watching sport in our homes may give a feeling of a return to normality. That is, as long as there are health guarantees and the government allows it.”

Meanwhile, the teams will have to get by and do whatever they can to stay healthy as well as fit to step on the floor when needed:

“For any team and for everyone, this situation is very uncomfortable because it is the first time we have experienced it. In any case, the team has no choice but to do individual work at home and each of the players is following the guidelines set by the physical trainer. What we are trying to do is stay in contact and active, waiting to have the opportunity to resume training on the court.”
