A scary situation developed during Sunday practice at AEK as Serbian big man Stevan Jelovac passed out.

Jelovac, 32, was training individually looking to recover after the ankle injury forcing him to the sidelines the last couple of weeks. He fainted and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Athens, Μetropolitan General, as announced by the Greek club. Pending medical tests are expected to reveal the cause of the syncopal episode.

AEK officials initially extremely worried, have accompanied Jelovac to the hospital expecting good news in the next few hours. The hope is that he can make a full and speedy recovery.

The experienced forward/center has drawn experience from Turkey, Germany, Russia, Spain, Lithuania, Italy, and Japan since extending his pro career beyond his home country, Serbia. As a member of the Queen, he averaged 12.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, and 0.7 steals per contest between the Basketball Champions League and Greece’s Stoiximan Basket League over seven appearances before shifting to the injury list.

The team coached by Stefanos Dedas will host VEF Riga in the next BCL Regular Season Monday “Game of the Week”, scheduled to be held tomorrow at the AEK Ano Liosia Arena. The 0-3 start in Group D shapes a must-win situation. The visiting side will come in at 1-2, thanks to the victory by a margin of 16 points in the reverse fixture.

A 3-4 W-L tally paints the current picture at the domestic level after the loss against Panathinaikos OPAP on Saturday.
