Brose Bamberg has parted ways with head coach Johan Roijakkers and signed Oren Amiel to take over the bench. Amiel arrives in Bamberg from Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem with which he signed this offseason.

Amiel was part of the ERA Nymburk organization, working as an assistant and head coach for a total of nine years with a successful presence in the Basketball Champions League in the recent campaigns.

“I would like to thank Johan for his work over the past 16 months. It began in Bamberg immediately before my appointment as managing director and we went through a very challenging time not only due to the pandemic. That is why we did not make the decision easy for ourselves – especially in view of the desired continuity in the head coach position. However, we haven’t seen any progress in the last few weeks, especially defensively, which would have convinced us to leave the downward spiral with four defeats in the last five games. We wish Johan all the best for the future”, said Brose Bamberg Managing Director Philipp Galewski.

Newly-appointed head coach Amiel commented: “I always wanted to coach at the BBL. If you then have the chance to do that for Brose, a club with this history, it is a great opportunity. My philosophy: I want to see a team that fights, that never gives up, that plays unselfish tempo basketball. We have the right players for that. I watched all the games on video, and it became clear: everyone supports everyone, the team chemistry is right. Now we have to go in the right direction together again. “
