Giorgos Limiatis was named head coach of Promitheas Vikos Cola.

After announcing the departure of Ilias Papatheodorou, the team based in Patras welcomed the new boss on Thursday.

With Promitheas expected to compete in the Basketball Champions League next season, 54-year-old Limniatis will remain in the top-tier club continental competition of FIBA Europe for a second year in a row. As the head coach of Peristeri Domino’s, he introduced himself with his side ranking third in Group H of the Regular Season, behind a 2-4 W-L tally. Moving to the Play Ins, Bertram Derthona Tortona ended the campaign with a two-game sweep. At the domestic level, Peristeri finished eighth overall in the Stoiximan GBL standings.

Following an extensive and long playing career, stretching across several Greek clubs, Sporting, Doukas, Ionikos Neas Filadelpheia, Panellinios, PAOK, Dafni, Panionios, Papagou, and Olympiacos, he extended a lasting relationship with basketball to a coaching career. After working as an assistant in the junior national teams of Greece, Nea Kifissia, Kymi, PAOK, and AEK, besides also serving the senior national team of Georgia in a similar position, under Ilias Zouros, he went on to become head coach of Lavrio and Maroussi, before replacing Vassilis Spanoulis and taking over Peristeri for the 2024-25 season.

In a quick turnaround from calling it a day, his former player, 41-year-old Vassilis Xanthopoulos recently emerged as his successor at Peristeri.

After two years as the play-caller of Promitheas, 49-year-old Papatheodorou is expected to soon take over Maroussi.
