ALBA signs Lithuanian big man Martynas Echodas

Martynas Echodas will continue his career in ALBA Berlin, competing in the German League and the Basketball Champions League, as the German club has officially announced.

Echodas was also linked with another BCL contender, AEK.

Per the press release: “The 28-year-old Lithuanian international has signed a contract with the Albatrosses until the end of the 2025-26 season. Last season, the 2.06-meter-tall center played for Turkish first division club Manisa Basket before a knee injury sidelined him. Echodas is currently still in rehabilitation training.

Last season, Martynas Echodas scored 13.7 points and 7.4 assists for Manisa Basket. In the Basketball Champions League, the center even averaged 15.4 points and 8.2 rebounds.

Martynas Echodas was born on July 7, 1997, in Kaunas, Lithuania, and began his basketball career in the youth program of Žalgiris Kaunas. From 2013 to 2016, he gained his first experience in the men’s division with Žalgiris’s second team in the second division. After a loan to BC Šiauliai, the center moved to Rytas Vilnius in 2017, where he quickly became a key player and was awarded the EuroCup Rising Star Award in 2019.

After four seasons at Rytas, Echodas moved to Italy to join Reyer Venezia for one season before returning to Vilnius for two more years in 2022. Last season, the Lithuanian international played in 14 matches for Manisa in Turkey before suffering an injury in December.

Starting at the U16 level, Echodas played for Lithuania’s youth national teams. He made his debut for the senior national team in 2018. Since then, he has appeared in a total of 22 games for Lithuania – including EuroBasket 2022 and various qualifying tournaments”.
