Tenerife survives drama against Trieste

Tenerife secured a victory in the second round of Group L, defeating Trieste 84-82 at home in the Basketball Champions League Round of 16.

Bruno Fitipaldo led with 17 points, Jaime Fernandez added 12, while Marcelinho Huertas and Giorgi Shermadini contributed 11 each. On the other side, Markel Brown topped with 15 points, Juan Toscano-Anderson had 14, and Jarrod Uthoff finished with 13.

A thrilling duel unfolded in Spain to close the second round, decided after drama. The Italians entered the final quarter with a 10-point lead (60-70), but Tenerife staged a comeback. With a strong run, Tenerife fought back, and Aaron Doornekamp paved the way to victory with two consecutive threes in the last two minutes (83-77).

Trieste rallied late, but Brown’s shot for the win with three seconds left missed, allowing the Spaniards to grab the rebound and secure the triumph.

Tenerife now stands at 2-0 and will face Gran Canaria away in the third round. Trieste has one win and one loss, with Nymburk up next.
