The Basketball Champions League has announced the Team of the Week for Round 5 of the Round of 16 in Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL. The lineup features Marcelinho Huertas of La Laguna Tenerife, John Meeks of Galatasaray MCT Technic, Simonas Lukosius of Rytas, RaiQuan Gray of AEK, and Ante Tomic of Asisa Joventut.
These five standouts were selected on Thursday, following their impressive performances during Tuesday and Wednesday’s action. They are now entered into a 24-hour fan vote on the official Champions League portal to determine the Player of the Week, with the winner set to be announced this Friday.
Per the press release: “The Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL continued with eight games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday gives us time to reflect on the best individual performances.
The 16th Team of the Week saw players from La Laguna Tenerife, Galatasaray MCT Technic, Rytas Vilnius, AEK BC and Asisa Joventut make the cut.
Marcelinho Huertas came back from injury and showed no signs of rust, pouring in 28 points to win the Canary Islands Derby against Dreamland Gran Canaria and secure home court advantage in the Quarter-Finals.
With Galatasaray this season, we’re used to different players taking over each week. This time around, it was John Meeks’ turn to light it up, taking down Hapoel Netanel Holon with ease.
However, Galatasaray aren’t through to the Quarter-Finals just yet, as Rytas Vilnius complicated proceedings in that group with a comfy win over Le Mans Sarthe Basket. Simonas Lukosius knocked down six triples.
AEK BC remain the only unbeaten team of the Round of 16, and while Frank Bartley did the scoring, RaiQuan Gray did everything else against Tofas Bursa, picking up a monster double-double.
Finally, the middle belongs to the Croatian artist. Ante Tomic led Asisa Joventut to a Quarter-Finals ticket, dominating inside the arc against Fitness First Wurzburg Baskets.”
