The countdown to the Basketball Champions League semifinal has begun, and ambition, excitement, and confidence are palpable in the La Laguna Tenerife locker room. Before the decisive match against Rytas Vilnius in the BCL Final Four, Jaime Fernández conveyed optimism and pride in once again placing the team among the tournament’s top four.
“We’re doing well, the feeling is good. We’re in high spirits, and it’s an honor to be here, another Final Four. We can’t take it for granted; there are only four teams left. Our spirits are high; we know it will be a very tough semifinal, but we’re going for it.”
Fernández also addressed the physical discomfort he’s been experiencing in his left wrist, although he made it clear that it won’t prevent him from being available for one of the most important games of the season.
“I have some pain in my wrist, but given the circumstances, I’m not going to miss the Final Four because of it. Besides, it’s my left wrist, which isn’t my shooting hand, so we’ll see how it feels during the game.”
On the sporting front, the Tenerife player emphasized the need to contain the Lithuanian team’s offensive potential and maintain the collective identity that has brought the team to this stage.
“I wish I knew how the game would go. We have to take care of our own game; we’re playing against a team with immense offensive talent, and we’ll try to limit that. On offense, as always: share the ball and find open shots, taking them with complete confidence.”
The semifinal is marked by the opportunity to win another European title for a generation that has established the club among the continental elite.
“These are special games, and there’s definitely more desire. This group of players deserves a title, Tenerife deserves it. To achieve that, we have to start with this first game.”
