ALBA Berlin has secured a vital piece of its future ahead of the easyCredit BBL Playoffs by signing team captain Jonas Mattisseck to a two-year contract extension.

The deal was announced on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old German guard, whose previous agreement was set to expire this summer, is now locked in with his hometown club through the summer of 2028.

This renewal injects a powerful wave of stability and emotional leadership into the Berlin roster just as the domestic postseason stretch run begins. A best-of-five series in the Quarterfinals opposite RASTA Vechta starts Sunday.

The Berlin native embodies the very identity of the franchise, having climbed directly through the club’s development ranks since arriving in 2016. Mattisseck initially honed his skills within the youth systems of VfL Lichtenrade, TuS Lichterfelde, and SSV Lokomotive Bernau, before making the definitive move to the Albatrosse. He has since transformed from a promising local prospect into an indispensable anchor and an undeniable club legend.

His resume already sparkles with elite domestic success, highlighted by three German championships.

In Basketball Champions League Season X, powered by Ameresco SUNEL, Mattisseck averaged 3.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game, logging his first 13 appearances in the league until his side was eliminated in the Quarterfinals by Unicaja. He previously played in 156 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games.

At the international level, he suited up across junior national teams of Germany and has been capped in the Qualifiers of recent major tournaments.
