Unicaja has officially entered a new era with the appointment of legendary strategist Txus Vidorreta as the club’s new head coach on a two-year contract.

The deal was announced on Thursday.

Per the press release: “Txus Vidorreta is the new head coach of Unicaja. This represents a significant investment in one of the most prestigious coaches in Spanish basketball, who was recently named the best coach in Basketball Champions League (BCL) history. Vidorreta’s arrival in Málaga is for two seasons, and his signing marks the beginning of a new era for Unicaja, one that aims to continue competing for top honors, as it has done in the last five years.”

Only three days separated from his emotional departure from La Laguna Tenerife, the Bilbao native quickly embraces his next Basketball Champions League assignment, steering the club directly toward the 2026–27 European campaign. Under his tactical guidance, Tenerife captured two BCL crowns in 2017 and 2022, alongside global dominance via two FIBA Intercontinental Cup championships in 2020 and 2023. This storied tenure cemented him as the winningest bench boss in tournament history, shattering the unprecedented 100-win milestone and earning Coach of the Decade honors.

Meanwhile, fellow Liga Endesa side UCAM Murcia countered with a massive retention move by securing team captain Jonah Radebaugh through 2029. The 29-year-old guard, a Star Lineup First Team member in 2022 and veteran of 50 Champions League appearances, has established himself as a central figure and foundational pillar for the Universitarios since arriving in 2024.
