Back in the 80s and early 90s, Panagiotis Giannakis was the floor general of Aris Thessaloniki during a period of dominance for the franchise in the Greek League.

Now, the legendary former player and also ex head coach of the Greek national team will soon be back in Thessaloniki in order to sit at the helm of Aris.

As the club officially announced, Giannakis and members of Aris management met today in Athens. After some discussions regarding the future plans of the team, the two sides reached an agreement on the details regarding a possible cooperation.

In the following days Giannakis is expected to sign his contract with Aris and be officially announced as the new head coach.

Giannakis’ coaching experience includes Panionios, Maroussi, Olympiacos (with which he reached the 2010 EuroLeague Final) and Limoges. He’s the only person to win a EuroBasket both as a player (1987) and head coach (2005) and the last coach to beat team USA (World Cup 2006 semifinal).
