Banvit won the first leg against Nanterre 92 on the road 74-66 in the Round of 16 of the Basketball Champions League thanks to Gasper Vidmar. The Slovenian big man had 18 points and 5 rebounds on 6-7 shooting from the field.

It was a defense that pushed Saso Filipovski’s team tonight. They held the hosts at 40 percent shooting from the field and they allowed them to score only 66 points.

With a 12-2 run on the start of the second half Nanterre tied the game up to 45-45 after trailing 10 in the first half (43-33). However, Banvit entered the last quarter with a small lead (54-52) thanks to Andy Rautins’ deep three.

That three gave back confidence to the visitors as they were able to expand their lead up to 8 points down the last stretch as they are going back to Turkey with a smile on their faces.

Nanterre’s latest signing Kevin Jones had a good perfomance with 18 points while Heiko Schaffartzik scored 16. Unfortunately for the home fans that wasn’t enough.

Nanterre will need to step up in the second leg in order to eliminate Banvit as they lost only one game at home this season in the BCL.
