Basketball Champions League reigning champion AEK Athens is finalizing a deal with Luca Banchi for the latter to be hired as the team’s new head coach, according to Eurohoops sources.

The two sides have reached an agreement and Banchi is expected to become the new head coach of AEK by signing a two-year contract. Banchi will succeed Dragan Sakota (who will assume GM duties with the club).

Banchi will travel to Greek in the following days in order to discuss the 2018-2019 planning with AEK owner-president Makis Aggelopoulos.

Last season Banchi coached Brose Bamberg in Germany. Throughout his career, the Italian coach had been also at the helm of Olimpia Milano (winning two Serie A titles in 2013 and 2014), Montepaschi Siena and Torino.
