FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis attended the International Forum – Russia Country of Sports during which he commented on the FIBA-EuroLeague relation, stressing that the national leagues have to join in as well and all sides need to make some concessions, according to the RIA news agency.

“I believe that in order to succeed in a series of positive changes, both sides must make concessions. And this isn’t something that has to do with FIBA or EuroLeague only but national leagues as well. Many of them just have the slightest hope of participating in EuroLeague and, theoretically, are separated. Let’s see how the situation turns out. If we develop relationships and partnerships, everyone will benefit,” he said.

Zagklis also noted the continental competitions and national teams’ games must coexist for basketball to go forward: “We must create an environment in which we will comfortably coexist and in which continental competition and national team games will be the driving forces of our sport. They are very important. To develop basketball, we must develop at both these directions. “

The new FIBA Secretary General practically confirmed what he had said during the FIBA World Cup about the possibility of new talks between FIBA and EuroLeague. However, there’s not yet a timeframe.
