Less than 50 days to the 2023 FIBA World Cup and teams are starting to announce their preliminary extended roster for the most anticipated International competition of the year. In Greece’s one, there won’t be Tyler Dorsey.

The Greek head coach Dimitris Itoudis, who has coached Dorsey both at EuroBasket 2022 and in the second part of the 2022-23 EuroLeague season with Fenerbahce, has decided to bring to the Philippines Thomas Walkup, who officially became a Greek citizen in April.

As known, the former CSKA Moscow head coach could only select one between Thomas Walkup and Tyler Dorsey and has decided to bring the former. His decision was probably related to the fact that Kostas Sloukas, who recently joined Panathinaikos in a shocking transfer, will be absent to rest.

There are other two big names who are still undecided if they will wear the Greek national team jersey this summer. Nick Calathes, following his season with Fenerbahce, hasn’t decided yet, while Giannis Antetokounmpo may as well skip the International competition, leaving Greece without its superstar having undergone cartilage cleaning in his left knee two weeks ago.

Greece will make its appearances at the 2023 FIBA World Cup in Manila, Philippines. They are set to face the United States, Jordan, and New Zealand at the Mall of Asia venue.
