Prepelic on WC Qualifiers: “A huge bullsh–t”

Following the quite surprising loss of defending European champion Slovenia to Belarus in Round 4 of the World Cup Qualifiers, Klemen Prepelic made some strong self-criticism on his and his teammates’ performance but also slammed the format and system of the competition.

“The World Cup Qualifiers are irregular. A thousand and one things change at the last minute. This is one huge bullsh–t, but we are all in the same sh–t. We must accept this because we have no influence on it,” Prepelic said according to Ekipa 24.

Slovenia is now 2-2 in Group A after this result and Prepelic believes that it’s a record not worthy of his national team’s status as the reigning EuroBasket champion.

“You defend the name of the European champion every day. Every day you have to prove that you are the best. You should not afford such blows. Some of us went to this game like it was a friendly game. Like there’s not competition. It was very important. We will now have to look for points (wins) against teams that are, on paper, much better opponents than Belarus.”
