Marco Belinelli is preparing with the San Antonio Spurs ahead of the 2019 NBA playoffs, but the best-of-seven series versus the Denver Nuggets isn’t exclusively occupying his mind. Interviewed by Dario Ronzulli for the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, the 33-year-old swingman said he will be in Italy’s squad for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which will take place in China this summer.

“After we qualified I spoke with Gianni Petrucci (president of Italian Basket Federation) and with (Romeo) Sacchetti a few day ago. I discussed with my teammates as well. We are all happy. We know the bar is high now. Our dream is to achieve something important with the National Team. I confirm my participation” Belinelli mentioned.

He last played for Italy in the 2017 EuroBasket and was a member of his National Team in Italy’s previous World Cup appearance, 2006 in Japan. During the 2018-19 NBA Regular Season he averaged 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the Spurs.
