Heading into the 2019 NBA playoffs, Marco Belinelli confirmed he will play for Italy in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Marco Belinelli is preparing with the San Antonio Spurs ahead of the 2019 NBA playoffs, but the best-of-seven series versus the Denver Nuggets isn’t exclusively occupying his mind. Interviewed by Dario Ronzulli for the Italian newspaper Tuttosport, the 33-year-old swingman said he will be in Italy’s squad for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, which will take place in China this summer.

“After we qualified I spoke with Gianni Petrucci (president of Italian Basket Federation) and with (Romeo) Sacchetti a few day ago. I discussed with my teammates as well. We are all happy. We know the bar is high now. Our dream is to achieve something important with the National Team. I confirm my participation” Belinelli mentioned.

He last played for Italy in the 2017 EuroBasket and was a member of his National Team in Italy’s previous World Cup appearance, 2006 in Japan. During the 2018-19 NBA Regular Season he averaged 10.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the Spurs.
