Virtus Roma started the 2020-21 season in the Italian First Division with big financial uncertainty and without a top sponsor which influenced the team’s operating on and off the court. Their record in LegaBasket has been 2-7.

The club owner sent a letter to the Italian Federation with his decision to cancel participation in the top basketball division and FIP confirmed the case with an announcement.

Per FIP:

The Italian Basketball Federation takes note with regret of the will, on the part of the management of the company Virtus Roma, to renounce participation in the current championship.

Impossible not to underline the very serious damage to the image caused not only to the championship but also and above all to the entire movement, which in this difficult moment lives on the sacrifices and seriousness of hundreds of companies throughout the territory.

The same FIP, as per procedure, will transmit all the documents to the Sports Judge so that he can take the measures of competence.
