Melli, Shields combine for 41 points, Milan takes 2-1 lead against Virtus

Another intense game in the Italian LegaBasket finals amid an incredible atmosphere at the packed Mediolanum Forum ended in Olimpia Milano’s favor, as the hosts grabbed a 94-82 win to gain a 2-1 advantage in the series.

Alongside 12.000 Olimpia Milano fans, Atlanta Hawks forward Danilo Gallinari also paid a visit to his home country to witness Game 3 of the finals first-hand.

After a tight first half between the two teams, Milano used a 30-point outbreak in the third quarter to gain a 10-point advantage in the game and never looked back, despite Virtus’ efforts.

Nicolo Melli and Shavon Shields combined for 41 points – 22 and 19 respectively – to lead Ettore Messina’s squad to victory. Jerain Grant followed with 14 points and Gigi Datome added 12 points.

On the opposing end, Daniel Hackett scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds to pace Virtus, Marco Belinelli and Milos Teodosic posted 14 points respectively and Tornike Shengelia had 10 points.

Game 4 of the series will take place Tuesday, June 14 (21:30 local time), once again in Milan.
