Virtus Bologna and Reyer Venezia start the playoffs with a win

The second night of the Lega Basket Serie A playoffs delivered two very different stories on Sunday: a statement win in Bologna and a composed display of control in Venice.

At the Virtus Bologna fortress, the home side overwhelmed Aquila Basket Trento with a crushing 102-71 victory that immediately underlined their championship ambitions. Derrick Alston Jr. and Carsen Edwards finished as the game’s top scorers with 21 points apiece, leading a Virtus attack that never allowed Trento to settle into the contest.

For the visitors, Jordan Bayehe tried to keep Trento competitive with 15 points, but the physical and tactical superiority of Bologna proved too much over four quarters.

Meanwhile, at the Reyer Venezia home court, the hosts defeated Derthona Basket 89-82 in a game that demanded patience and composure. Tortona ended the first quarter ahead 23-22 and initially looked capable of stealing momentum away from Venice.

However, Reyer responded with authority before halftime. The home side accelerated offensively in the second quarter, turning a narrow deficit into a commanding 51-40 advantage before the break. From that moment onward, Venezia controlled the tempo and never surrendered the lead, managing every attempted comeback with maturity.

RJ Cole starred for the hosts with 20 points, while Prentiss Hubb matched him with 20 for Tortona in an entertaining scoring duel.
