Despite Nikola Jokic’s dominance in the NBA, the honor of the best Serbian player for 2023 goes to Bogdan Bogdanovic, as announced by the Basketball Federation of Serbia.

In a traditional poll involving 40 domestic journalists, Bogdanovic secured 27 votes, surpassing Jokic, who received only 10. Aleksa Avramovic from Partizan received two votes, while Borisa Simonic, who lost a kidney at the 2023 World Cup, earned one vote.

The primary reason behind this decision lies in Bogdanovic’s leadership of the Serbian national team, guiding them to a silver medal at the 2023 World Cup as the top scorer and captain. In contrast, Jokic chose to skip the tournament after winning his first NBA championship the previous summer.

Expressing his gratitude, Bogdanovic stated, “I am grateful to everyone, thanks to the Federation and the journalists who chose me. It is a great honor for me. Greetings to all, and let’s meet next summer.

Following a successful campaign with the national team, Bogdanovic continues to have an outstanding season in the NBA, averaging 17.7 points per game with a 37.5% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc.
