Marcin Gortat retires at 35

Marcin Gortat retires from professional basketball. The veteran Polish NBA center reached the decision to hang his shoes at the age of 35 and after a 12-year-stint in the NBA.

“It’s time to end my career,” Gortat said in an interview with TVP Info. “I think this is the moment when the year has passed – as I said at the beginning, I give myself a year [off] to see what life will bring me – and it brought me to this decision, that I am going to retire, I’m finishing my professional playing.”

Gortat spent the vast majority of his career playing in the NBA. Overall, the Polish big man competed in 892 games in the league over 12 seasons with the Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, and the Los Angeles Clippers, the last team he played with.

He retired after averaging 9.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists.

Gortat also played 14 games n EuroLeague in 2006 – 2007 with German team RheinStars Kolnbefore signing with the Magic to head to the NBA for good.
