Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson was again struck by bad luck. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the three-time NBA champion suffered an Achilles tendon tear that will keep him out for a second straight season.

Thompson, 30, underwent an MRI Thursday which confirmed initial fears following his right leg injury during a workout on Tuesday. He is expected to make a full recovery.

The Warriors later announced that Thompson is expected to be out for the season: “Klay Thompson suffered a torn right Achilles tendon, an MRI confirmed today in Los Angeles. Thompson suffered the injury in a workout yesterday in Southern California. He is expected to miss the 2020-21 season.”

The former Washington State standout is coming off missing the entire 2019-20 season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee. The approaching 2020-21 season will be his second in a row forced to the sidelines.

The Warriors strategy heading into free agency is likely to be impacted in an effort to land a suitable replacement for the 2020-21 season.
