Ricky Rubio: My game is not here and I’ve got to find it

Ricky Rubio expressed his disappointment with his performances in his return to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Spanish guard has been averaging career-lows 6.1 points, 5.7 assists and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 34.0 percent from the field (including 5-27 3-pointers) so it’s small surprise that he has been far from happy with the way he’s been playing.

“It is what it is. There’s no excuses,” Rubio said per the Star Tribune. “I’m going to keep working hard. I’ve been in the league for 10 years and I know who I am, but it’s off. My game is not here, and I’ve got to find it.”

Rubio was acquired via trade by the Timberwolves in November and came back to the team he made his NBA beginnings with in 2011. In 2019-2020 he had one of his most productive seasons in the NBA, averaging a career-high-tying 13.1 points along with 8.9 assists and 4.6 rebounds with the Phoenix Suns.

“Sometimes, if you think too much, it’s bad for you, but you can’t just let it go and go out there,” Rubio mentioned. “You’ve got to fix it if things are not working. Got to feel better with the system, with what we’re running, and as a point guard, I’ve got to do my job.”
