Vildoza on joining the Knicks: Living a dream; I didn’t want to get stuck in a comfort zone

Luca Vildoza said that his acquisition by the New York Knicks for his first-ever NBA stint marks a dream that came true. The Argentinian guard was officially signed by the Knicks, leaving Baskonia after the completion of the EuroLeague regular season.

“For me it’s living a dream,” Vildoza said in an interview for Gigantes del Basket. “I don’t like having to leave in the middle of the season, knowing that maybe I left the team without a guard. In the end, they hired Quino [Colom] but at the time I left them without a point guard, which was really important. When i contacted the guys, they understood me well. It’s a unique opportunity that may never happen again, I didn’t want to miss it.”

Vildoza is far from the first Argentinian who leaves a EuroLeague team this season to get to the NBA since Facu Campazzo made the start in November and then Gabriel Deck followed some months later.

“The Argentinians [fans] go crazy with the NBA. You already see it in soecial media. The NBA is the best league in the world and you always want to get there, even though my dream as a kid has been to be in the EuroLeague. In the last few years, I realized that maybe I could take that step. The Knicks gave me the opportunity and I decided to take it. I don’t want to get stuck in a comfort zone and I wanted to take that step.”

What’s the advice that Campazzo gave him? “Hee told me that the 3-point line is very far and I will have to get used to it, but he told me that I will be happy and that is what gave me the most peace of mind.”
