The Boston Celtics announced that Jaylen Brown has tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. He is asymptomatic and quarantining, as noted in the press release.

Brown, 24, is likely to miss the remaining 2021 NBA Preseason games. A return date has not been set, but he can also be out for the start of the 2021-22 Regular Season, depending on his condition.

Per the press release: “Celtics guard Jaylen Brown tested positive for COVID-19 today. He is asymptomatic and quarantining. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.”

The 3rd overall pick of the 2016 NBA draft, coming out of California, has not disclosed his coronavirus vaccination status. “I think it’s a personal decision and I have my own thoughts about it, but I respect my teammates’ decision,” he said during the Celtics Media Day, a couple of weeks ago, “I know everyone has an opinion on it, but it’s a personal choice.”

The Celtics are scheduled to host the Toronto Raptors at the TD Garden on Saturday. The remaining friendlies will travel the team at the Orlando Magic’s Amway Center on Wednesday and against the Miami Heat at FTX Arena on Friday.

Brown poured a game-high 25 points in the opening game of the Preseason starring in the win versus the Magic, now seeming to evolve to his lone Preseason appearance. He added four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block in 26 minutes.

Boston will open the Regular Season with an away fixture opposite the New York Knicks on October 20. The home opener follows a couple of days later against the Toronto Raptors. German Dennis Schroder is among the candidates to pick up additional playing time if his teammate ends up sidelined to start the 2021-22 Regular Season.
