No deal between Ayton, Suns after extension talks

The Phoenix Suns and Deandre Ayton had a discussion regarding a potential extension to the player’s rookie contract and no agreement was reached between the two sides, according to ESPN.

ESPN reports that while Ayton expected a maximum contract, that was not the offer he got by Suns owner Robert Sarver. The 23-year-old big man wants a deal similar to the ones that his fellow 2018 draftees Luka Doncic, Trae Young, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Michael Porter Jr. have signed.

Ayton, the 1st overall pick of 2018, is coming off a strong playoff run with the Suns. He averaged 15.8 points and 11.1 rebounds in postseason while being an integral part of his team’s defense to help Phoenix reach the Finals for the first time since 1993.
