The San Antonio Spurs took down the Oklahoma City Thunder 114-106 on Wednesday night, and head coach Gregg Popovich moved past Lenny Wilkens for the second spot in NBA’s all-time coaching wins with his 1,333rd.

Popovich, 73, is now only three wins away from taking the top of the list – Don Nelson currently leads with 1,335 victories. The Spurs playcaller is just one of the two head coaches featured in the all-time Top 10 whilst currently active in the NBA; Philadelphia 76ers’ Doc Rivers sits on the 10th spot with an overall 1,026 victories.

By the end of the current campaign, Popovich could have established himself well into the top – with a winning record that would be hard to match in the coming years.

A five-time NBA champion with the Spurs and three-time NBA coach of the year, Popovich is one of just six coaches to have registered more than 2,000 regular-season games across 26+ seasons, with a win percentage of .659.

Popovich recorded his first-ever win as a head coach win with the Spurs back in December 8, 1996 against the Dallas Mavericks, shortly after Bob Hill was fired by the franchise.
