The Brooklyn Nets and head coach Steve Nash decided to end their relationship after starting the 2022-23 NBA season with a 2-5 record.

“Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience, and humility throughout his tenure. Personally, this was an immensely difficult decision; however, after much deliberation and evaluation of how the season has begun, we agreed that a change is necessary at this time”, general manager Sean Marks said in a statement.

Steve Nash, who is considered one of the best playmakers in NBA history, started his coaching career with the Brooklyn Nets in September 2020.

The Canadian 48-year-old thanked Brooklyn on Twitter for these two years on the Nets’ bench. “It was an amazing experience with many challenges that I’m incredibly grateful for. Thanks to Brooklyn and the passionate fans who support this team. I wish the Nets all the success in the world”, he wrote.

He leaves the NBA franchise after collecting a 94-67 record and winning just one playoff round. Despite having on the roster big names like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, James Harden, and Ben Simmons, he couldn’t manage to bring a title to Brooklyn.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, suspended Celtics coach Ime Udoka and Quin Snyder are among the candidates to replace Steve Nash. Boston will let Udoka leave for another job and he emerges as the top candidate.
