Zion Williamson on his late dunk against Phoenix: “That was a little out of character for me”

With less than two seconds left in the game, Zion Williamson performed a 360° windmill dunk to finally give the New Orleans Pelicans the 128-117 victory.

After that dunk, though, Phoenix Suns’ players started to go against the #1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, who reflected on that action in the post-game press conference.

“That was a little out of character for me. But you’ve got to understand, they sent my teammates home last year. I missed all of last year. I got carried away a little bit. I admit that. I was in that locker room when my brothers were down because the Suns sent us home last year. That’s a tough moment to be a part of. So at that moment, I got carried away. I admit that. If they were to do the same thing, I wouldn’t have no problem with it”, he said.

Zion Williamson ended the game with a season-high 35 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists, with 13/17 FG, in 37 minutes on the court, keeping the Pelicans first in the Western Conference with a 17-8 record.

He’s currently averaging 24.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, shooting 60.5% from the field.

Cameron Payne didn’t like Zion’s decision. “The game was pretty much over and they just kept playing. I felt like there was just no sportsmanship and we don’t really like that. We do the right thing. I felt like they should’ve done the right thing and they didn’t. We didn’t take it well and we don’t like to lose either. The game was over, with no shot clock. They can hold the ball”, the Suns player commented.
