The NBA has opened an investigation into a social media post of Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant, in which he appears to be holding a gun.

“We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating,” said NBA spokesman Mike Bass. Shortly afterward, the Grizzlies announced that Morant will be away from the team for the next two games.

Morant himself issued a statement: “I take full responsibility for my actions last night. I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.” He also shut down all his social media profiles.

Earlier on Saturday (4/3) morning, Morant put up an live video on his Instagram profile, flashing a gun, pointing at it and smiling. The video is reported to be taken while Morant and his company where at a strip club.

A few days later, Morant was spotted performing a “gun celebration” during a win of the Grizzlies over the Houston Rockets. The same day a report emerged about the 23-year-old player allegedly “repeatedly punching” and threatening a teenage boy with a gun in his house. These allegations were shut down by the player’s representatives.

The NBA is expected to take action and suspend Morant.
