Victor Wembanyama wants to win the NBA championship as quick as possible

Victor Wembanyama has enough trust in his own capabilities and the know-how of the San Antonio Spurs to hope that it won’t take him too long to be crowned an NBA champion.

“Everyone wants it [the championship] for sure,” Wembanyama said. “Some more than others. I know the Spurs know how to do it. They’ve done it in the past multiple times and they are going to do it again. Of course, I just want it as quick as possible. But it’s going to come. Some day it’s going to come, I’m sure. But I don’t know when.”

Wembanyama has been frequently asked about winning an NBA ring since he got drafted with the No. 1 overall pick by the Spurs. San Antonio got a generational talent and a rare breed of a player who is already showing glimpses of how impactful he can be during the NBA preseason.

Even though he’s already the massive favorite to be named Rookie of the Year at the end of 2023-24, Wembanyama doesn’t think about. Partly because he also knows that the trophy will fall in his hands if he just performs according to his talent.

“It [ROY] is not my main goal. I know it’s going to come. But it’s not something I should worry about. It’ll come naturally if I put my 100 percent on the court and sacrifice for my teammates.”

So far in the NBA preseason, Wembanyama averages 19.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in 20.8 minutes over four games. After a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in their first prep game, the Spurs registered wins over the Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings and the Golden State Warriors.
