Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers are reuniting ahead of the upcoming season.
According to Shams Charania of ESPN, Lillard and the Blazers are finalizing a three-year, 42 million deal that will mark a homecoming for Lillard after he was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks in June.
The contract will include a player option for 2027-28 and a no-trade clause. Essentially, this means that 35-yeat-old Lillard will very likely finish his career in the place he started his NBA journey.
The Oregonian first reported that Lillard is “strongly considering” signing with the Blazers and make his comeback with the team after he was traded to the Bucks in 2023. The player spent the first 11 years of his career in Portland, emerging as one of the top guards in the league.
Lillard, a seven-time All-Star with the Blazers, is likely to miss most of the 2025-26 season after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the playoff series between the Bucks and the Indiana Pacers in April. He had recovered from a deep vein thrombosis in his right calf that kept him sidelined from three weeks.
In 2024-25, Lillard averaged 24.9 points, 7.1 assists and 4.7 rebounds in 58 games.
