Michael Jordan has stepped back into the NBA spotlight, taking on a new role as a commentator and analyst for NBC.
In the second episode of “MJ: Insights to Excellence” series, Jordan shared his perspective on the growing trend of players sitting out games.
MJ explained that, in his view, such absences should never be necessary.
“Well, it shouldn’t be needed, first and foremost. You know, I never wanted to miss a game because it was an opportunity to prove. It was something that I felt like the fans are there that watch me play. I want to impress that guy way up on top who probably worked his ass off to get a ticket or to get money to buy the ticket.”
Jordan was known for rarely missing games throughout his NBA career — in nine of his 15 seasons, he played all 82 regular-season games.
“You play basketball for 2.5 to 3 hours a day. That’s your job. That’s what you get paid to do as an NBA player. What are you doing the other 21 hours? To me, that’s when you should be preparing for your next day of work, for your next challenge.”
