Yabusele on limited role with Knicks: “I don’t want to lie, it’s very difficult”

After a brilliant 2024 Olympics and a strong season in Philadelphia 76ers, Guerschon Yabusele finds himself struggling to carve out a role in the New York Knicks’ deep roster.

He averages less than ten minutes per game and is shuffled between positions, including backup center.

I try to be ready whenever my name is called,” Yabusele told AFP and Basket USA.

The 29-year-old admitted the situation is tougher than he expected when arriving in New York.

I don’t want to lie, it’s very difficult. I’m a competitor first and foremost,” he said.

Despite the challenge, Yabusele stays positive. He focuses on preparing each day and making the most of his limited minutes.

I try to control my impact on the court, no matter how much time I get,” he added.

He recently showed glimpses of his potential, scoring 11 points in just nine minutes, his highest output with the Knicks so far.

Coach Mike Brown has expressed patience, keeping Yabusele moving between positions and giving him a chance to adjust.

The communication is different here, more individualistic than in Europe,” Yabusele said. “But I try not to overthink it and stay positive every day.”

He credits the team’s supportive atmosphere for helping him remain focused. The Knicks head to the NBA Cup final on Tuesday against San Antonio, where Yabusele hopes to make his mark.
