Mark Tatum, NBA Deputy Commissioner and one of the leading figure in the NBA Europe initiative, spoke with La Gazzetta dello Sport about potential cities, clubs, and infrastructure plans.

On the speculation surrounding Milan and Rome as possible hubs for NBA Europe, Tatum emphasized that no decisions have been made.

I was just giving an example when I mentioned Milan and Rome, but we are also talking to several parties interested in those two markets. At this point, I can’t say that there are any favourites,” Tatum said.

Tatum also confirmed discussions with Italian clubs, including Olimpia Milano, highlighting his recent conversation with head coach Ettore Messina.

Yes, of course, I repeat that when I mentioned Milan, I was just giving an example. I also discussed this recently with Ettore Messina, and we are on the same wavelength. We are in talks with several groups.

On the subject of infrastructure, Tatum underlined that establishing suitable arenas will be essential for the long-term success of NBA Europe in Italy.

Yes, that’s the plan. We know it will take time, and for the first few years we will adapt to the existing situation. But we certainly need to play in suitable facilities in the future.”
