After mishandling an 11-point lead late in the first half, the San Antonio Spurs fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers, 113-101, in Frost Bank Center on Monday.
In his second showing since resurfacing in the starting lineup of Mitch Johnson, Victor Wembanyama connected 7/16 field goals, including two three-pointers, en route to a 26-point, 14-rebound double-double to go with three assists, one block, and one steal over 27:19. However, his side was forced to a second straight loss in the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season.
“We can’t overlook their defense doing a great job. We had a good scouting report, but ultimately, there were many things we could have controlled, a lot of mistakes that were on us. I don’t know about anxiety, but it’s definitely a point in the season where we have trusted things, some have worked, and some haven’t, and teams are trying new things, and we have to be more calm,” mentioned the 21-year-old French center in a postgame press conference.
“It’s a transition in our season for us, because we just came off a very tough stretch, during which we came out pretty successful. It was very demanding games mentally, demanding scouting reports and opponents. And we have to be able to settle down after that, and not let everything go to waste, just like we did these last two games,” added Wemby.
Polish teammate Jeremy Sochan stayed on the bench.
After being reduced to 23-9, the Spurs complete a three-game homestand against the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
