Jaylen Brown is under contract through the 2028-29 season following his $286.2 million supermax extension with the Boston Celtics in 2023, but the star wing is already eyeing a potential second act.
Brown was crowned an NBA champion and Finals MVP in 2024. A Celtics mainstay since being selected third overall out of California in 2016, he earned his fifth All-Star selection this season, first as a starter.
Before heading to Sunday’s game at Intuit Dome and scoring 15 points across three 12-minute games with the Stripes, the 29-year-old forward opened up during a Saturday media session about a possible transition to MMA or boxing.
“I think the fans like to see some of that stuff cross over,” Brown said regarding the intersection of sports. “Obviously, you don’t want things to get out of hand. You don’t want violence to be enacted, but it’s kind of exciting when you get in the moment to have a little bit of controversy.”
“Sometimes it’s not even that big of a deal, but we’ve got emotional dudes. We’ve got passionate dudes about this game. Some of that stuff is going to happen. You get in between those margins, you’re throwing bows. That’s a part of the game to some degree,” he continued.
Beyond basketball, Brown has already integrated combat sports into his training to maintain peak physical condition. He confirmed he has discussed a future in mixed martial arts with UFC CEO Dana White.
“To be honest, I’ve toyed with this, and I’ve talked to some people. Maybe in the post-career part of my life, I would love to partake in something like the UFC or even boxing. I’ve talked to Dana White about some stuff. We’ll see how things go,” he noted.
A potential Heavyweight or Light Heavyweight prospect, Brown is currently playing the best basketball of his career, averaging 29.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists through 49 games of the 2025-26 Regular Season.
