Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers find themselves in a precarious position following a hard-fought loss to the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena. While the defeat itself was a setback for the team’s playoff positioning, the larger story centered on Doncic receiving his 15th technical foul of the season, placing him on the brink of an automatic one-game suspension.

The incident occurred during a heated exchange with the officiating crew, a recurring theme for the Slovenian superstar. Following the game, crew chief Ed Malloy provided a succinct explanation for the call: “Doncic was issued a technical foul for using profanity directed toward a referee.”

The Ljubljana native, however, expressed clear frustration with what he perceived as a lack of consistency in how the rules were applied. “I heard three other players saying the exact same sentence and didn’t get a tech. And that’s my problem,” the 27-year-old combo guard remarked. He further emphasized his attempt to remain disciplined before the whistle blew. “I was trying not to talk at all. It’s the first thing I said, no warning or nothing. But I heard three other players saying the same thing and nothing. I don’t know what to say.”

With a suspension looming if he reaches 16 technicals, Doncic remained blunt about his strategy for the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA Regular Season. “Don’t get another tech,” he stressed. When asked how he would navigate the high-pressure games ahead, he simply added, “We’ll see. Can’t predict the future.”

The loss also highlighted the gap between the Lakers and the West’s elite, as Nikola Jokic dominated the marquee European matchup. The Serbian center notched his 23rd triple-double of the season, earning high praise from his rival. “There’s a reason he’s the MVP. It’s very hard to stop him, and you just have to try to make it difficult for him,” noted Doncic.

Despite the Lakers falling to 37-25 and slipping further down the Western Conference standings, Doncic remained optimistic about the team’s resilience. “I honestly think we did a great job,” he said regarding the effort in Denver. “Obviously, the start was terrible, but after that, we got down double digits multiple times and came back, had a chance to win it. We just didn’t go.”
