After weeks of intense public speculation, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has confirmed his separation from fiancee Anamaria Goltes. The announcement marks a turbulent personal chapter for the 27-year-old Slovenian, who is currently embroiled in a multi-national custody battle while leading the NBA in scoring.

“I love my daughters more than anything and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” he said in a statement provided to ESPN on Tuesday. “Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.”

The dissolution of the relationship, which began in 2016, follows a series of escalating legal maneuvers. Documents obtained by TMZ Sports reveal that Goltes, a fashion and fitness model, recently filed a petition in California seeking child support and attorney fees.

The rift reportedly reached a breaking point in early December in Slovenia, shortly after the birth of the couple’s second daughter, Olivia. A disagreement ensued when Doncic expressed a desire to bring their eldest daughter, Gabriela, back to Los Angeles. The dispute led Goltes to contact local authorities. However, police interviewed both parties and concluded there were no elements of a criminal offense.

The personal strain has occasionally spilled onto the court. Shortly before announcing his separation, the NBA sanctioned Doncic for a money gesture incident involving official Tre Maddox during a victory over the New York Knicks.

Per the press release: “Los Angeles Lakers forward/guard Luka Doncic has been fined $50,000 for directing an inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official, it was announced today by James Jones, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. The incident occurred with 4:35 remaining in the third quarter of the Lakers’ 110-97 victory over the New York Knicks on March 8 at Crypto.com Arena.”

The Ljubljana native is currently averaging a league-high 32.5 points per game in the 2025-26 Regular Season, maintaining a bid for the season MVP award.
