Toronto Raptors forward Sandro Mamukelashvili believes the continent that raised him is ready for its next major evolution. Discussing the potential for a new continental league, widely labeled as NBA Europe, the 26-year-old Georgian international projects the venture as a massive success for the sport.

“That’s going to be amazing because other teams are going to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level,” he noted during his appearance on the latest episode of Full Court Passport, after sharing his view on the initial field consisting of 12 franchises and four rotating spots. “The talent will be there, and I think it’s going to compete with college and even the NBA. I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops, and hopefully, down the line, I will have my chance to play over there.”

Despite his current success in the NBA, where he is averaging 10.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists during the 2025-26 Regular Season, Mamukelashvili remains deeply rooted in his heritage. He revealed a long-term desire to eventually return to his home continent. “I would say, first, I want to play in Europe. I want to finish my career there. I want to live there most of the time, and I want my kids to go over there with me, once I have, and experience those emotions, being close to home, making it easier for my parents to fly in and for my friends to visit.”

For now, his focus remains on Toronto and the tactical leadership of Darko Rajakovic. Mamu expressed deep admiration for the coach’s philosophy, noting a natural synergy between his own versatile skill set and the Serbian expert’s fast-paced system.

“He is an amazing X’s and O’s coach. He knows what he’s doing,” he mentioned. “He loves fast-paced basketball, which fits me a lot as a player. But Darko doesn’t go easy on anyone. If you make a mistake, you’re going to hear about it during the film session.”

At 38-29, the Raptors currently hold the 6th seed in the Eastern Conference.
