Conflicting stories in Milwaukee: NBA still probing Giannis situation

The NBA continues to monitor the situation involving the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo, with differing accounts from the player and the franchise regarding his availability and recovery process.

Antetokounmpo has not played since March 15 due to a hyperextended knee and bone bruise, but he has publicly stated that he feels healthy and ready to return to action.

The Bucks, however, maintain that he has not been medically cleared and told the league that the Greek star declined to participate in 3-on-3 scrimmages as part of his recovery protocol, which remains a key point of disagreement.

The NBA’s Player Participation Policy investigation into the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo is ongoing and certain facts remain in dispute,” a league spokesperson said per ESPN, adding that there is also “a disagreement as to whether the team requested that Giannis participate in a group workout earlier this week.”

The situation gained further attention after reports that Milwaukee considered shutting Antetokounmpo down for the remainder of the season, a proposal he opposed. The National Basketball Players Association also criticized the Bucks, suggesting their actions could impact the league’s integrity.

Milwaukee was eliminated from playoff contention on March 28, missing the postseason for the first time since 2016, with the Giannis situation still unresolved as the NBA continues its review.
