The final buzzer at the Intuit Dome on Wednesday night perhaps signaled more than just the end of the 2025-26 journey for the Los Angeles Clippers. It likely marked the conclusion of Nicolas Batum’s illustrious eighteen-year tenure in the NBA.

While the 37-year-old veteran did not see action in the elimination loss to the Golden State Warriors during the 2026 SoFi NBA Play-In Tournament, he might have suited up for the final time. Having already retired from the French national team following a poignant silver-medal finish at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Batum returned to the Clippers on a two-year deal, yet he frequently hinted throughout the season that this campaign would serve as his final lap.

The Lisieux native has yet to officially confirm his retirement, but his recent reflections suggest that a departure from the hardwood is imminent. “We’ll see, I’m still thinking about it,” he shared in a recent conversation with RMC Sport, acknowledging that after two decades as a professional, he feels he has nothing left to prove to the game. Although the Clippers organization holds a team option for the 2026-27 season, the Frenchman appears ready to prioritize his life beyond basketball.

Across 18 NBA seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Clippers, he appeared in 1,205 regular-season games and 76 playoff contests. Even in his final year, he remained a reliable rotation piece, appearing in 74 games, averaging 4.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.

Internationally, with France, he collected seven medals at the senior level.
