The NBA has fined Jaylen Brown 50,000 dollars for public criticism of officiating following a season-ending loss for the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The league’s decision, announced on Tuesday, stems from comments the 29-year-old guard-forward made during a Sunday livestream. The broadcast occurred just one day after his side’s loss in Game 7 of the opening round in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google, at TD Garden.

He accused officials of harboring an ‘agenda’ against him, suggesting that certain referees targeted him in retaliation for his past criticisms of league officiating. To illustrate his point, Brown reviewed game footage of Sixers forward Paul George, arguing that George was permitted to push off on plays that would have resulted in offensive fouls if committed by Brown himself. In addition, he suggested that the officiating in the final three games of the series warranted a formal investigation.

Throughout the opening round of the postseason, the Most Valuable Player in the Finals of the 2023-24 championship run of the C’s was whistled for ten offensive fouls, double the amount of any other player in the league during that span.

Beyond referees, Brown took aim at Philadelphia center Joel Embiid, claiming his penchant for flopping has ‘ruined the game’. While acknowledging Embiid as one of the greatest big men in basketball history, he insisted the flopping is an open secret.

Earlier in his 2025-26 journey, the Georgia native was docked 35,000 dollars in January following a postgame rant regarding the officiating in a loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
