The Philadelphia 76ers have officially parted ways with president of basketball operations Daryl Morey following six seasons marked by regular-season success but persistent postseason limitations.
Managing partner Josh Harris announced the decision Tuesday night, emphasizing that discussions with the 53-year-old Morey revealed it was time for a fresh start. The departing executive, who joined the organization in November 2020, accumulated a 270–212 regular-season record and five playoff berths. However, the team failed to advance past the Eastern Conference Semifinals during his tenure, extending a franchise Conference Finals drought dating back to 2001.
Bob Myers will oversee basketball operations in the interim. A two-time NBA Executive of the Year who built the Golden State Warriors dynasty, he will immediately spearhead a thorough and deliberate search for the franchise’s next executive leader to shape the future of the team.
Despite the leadership overhaul, the 76ers are opting to retain head coach Nick Nurse, who holds a 116–130 record across three seasons with the Sixers. The 58-year-old tactician guided the team through a resilient opening-round series, overcoming a 3–1 deficit to eliminate the Boston Celtics before being swept by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google.
The incoming executive faces a complex roster infrastructure burdened by heavy financial commitments and mixed results from Morey’s maneuvers. Superstars Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey are owed $153 million next season despite playing limited games together. Conversely, the new front office inherits certain cost-controlled depth pieces, such as Turkish center Adem Bona, who remains secured under a four-year rookie contract that runs through 2028 with a team option for the final season.
